Understanding prospect links

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Prospect links represent backlinks you want to acquire but don’t have yet. They’re useful for organizing and tracking your outreach efforts directly within Linkody.

Why use prospect links?

Prospect links help you:

  • Keep track of potential backlinks

  • Organize and label outreach targets

  • Get notified when a prospect becomes a real link

Once Linkody detects that a prospect link has become active, this will be highlighted in your daily email report, so you’ll know exactly when you’ve landed a link.

Prospect statuses

You can assign a status to each prospect to reflect its stage in your outreach process:

  • Candidate – Potential opportunity

  • Requested – Contact made

  • Pending – Waiting for response or publication

  • Declined – Opportunity rejected or closed

These statuses are for your reference only and do not affect how Linkody handles the link.

How to add prospect links

There are three ways to add prospect links in Linkody:

  • From the Links Report: Click the Add links button and toggle the switch from “The link already exists” to “I am expecting a link from this page.”

    Add a prospect link switch

  • From the Competitor Links Report: Click the star icon to the right of the desired link to add it as a prospect.

  • From the Link Intersect Report: Click the star icon to the right of the desired link to add it as a prospect.

Once added, prospect links appear in the Links Report:

This makes it easy to review and track progress alongside your live links.

Targeting specific pages or domains

When adding a prospect link via the Links Report, you can specify:

  • A full referring page URL, if you are targeting a particular page

  • Just the domain, if you're open to acquiring a link from any page on that site

In the second case, if Linkody later discovers a backlink from any page on that domain, it will automatically turn the prospect link into a normal link.

When to use prospect links

Use prospect links to:

  • Track backlinks your competitors have but you don’t

  • Monitor outreach targets for guest posts, reviews, or directory listings

  • Build and manage your link-building pipeline without external tools

Prospect links turn Linkody into a lightweight CRM for backlink acquisition, making your outreach efforts easier to follow and measure.
