Updated over a week ago

The Competitors Links Report provides detailed insights into the backlinks pointing to your tracked competitors. It helps you identify valuable link sources and uncover potential outreach opportunities.

What the report shows

Each row in the Competitors Links Report represents a backlink with detailed data to help you understand its value.

Competitor Links Report

This report is similar to your own Links Report, with most of the same data fields, including:

  • Anchor text

  • Rel attribute (follow, nofollow, etc.)

  • Source page (title + URL)

  • Target page (URL)

  • Domain Authority (DA)

  • Page Authority (PA)

  • Spam Score

  • IP address & country

  • TLD

  • EFL (external followed links)

  • Ranking (from Tranco)

Report scope: one competitor or all competitors

The Competitor Links Report can be viewed in two ways:

  • For all competitors – View all backlinks Linkody has found across the competitors you're tracking for a specific domain.

    1. Click on the "Home" at the top left, then choose a domain

      Click on Home
    2. Click on "Links" in the Competitors section of the left menu

      Click on Links

  • For one specific competitor – See only the backlinks pointing to that competitor's domain.

    1. Click on the "Home" at the top left, then click on the competitors count link

    2. Choose a competitor

When using the “All Competitors” view:

  • An extra Competitor column shows which domain each link points to.

  • This view is useful for:

    • Spotting popular link sources – Identify domains that frequently link to your competitors.

    • Filtering by metrics – Find high-DA or low-spam-score links across all competitors.

    • Targeting specific link types – Filter by rel type, anchor text, or link placement to discover replicable backlink opportunities.

    • Monitoring new competitor links – Track fresh backlinks acquired by any competitor.

How competitor links are found

Linkody scans your competitors weekly to discover new backlinks.
It also checks previously found links and silently removes any that no longer exist. This ensures your report stays up to date with only active links.

Shared backlinks

Pages and domains already linking to you are marked visually:

  • A single green mark indicates that the referring domain already links to you.

  • A double green mark indicates that the specific page already links to you.

This makes it easy to spot which opportunities you’ve already captured and which ones remain open.

There are filters to exclude these shared sources, so you can focus on pages or domains that link to your competitors, but not to you.

These are the best outreach opportunities, as they represent untapped backlink sources.

Using the report for link building

The Competitors Links Report is more than just a list of backlinks—it’s a practical tool for identifying and acting on link-building opportunities based on what’s already working for others in your niche. By analyzing your competitors’ backlinks, you can reverse-engineer their SEO strategy and uncover high-value sources you’re currently missing.

1. Find backlinks you don’t have

One of the most effective uses of this report is to identify backlinks your competitors have, but you don’t.
You can use the built-in filters to exclude links from domains or pages that already link to your site. This leaves you with a clean list of unshared links—those that point only to your competitors. These represent clear opportunities: websites that are already open to linking to similar content or businesses.

2. Discover backlink types and opportunities

The search bar lets you dig deeper into the nature of the backlinks. By searching for keywords in the source URLs or anchor texts, you can identify different types of opportunities:

  • “blog” – Helps uncover potential guest blogging sites. If they’ve accepted a guest post from your competitor, they may be open to one from you.

  • “roundup” – Finds expert roundups or curated content lists that mention your competitor but not you. These are often easy wins if your content or service is relevant.

  • “review” – Locates sites that have reviewed your competitors' tools or services. These are great targets for outreach, especially if you offer something comparable or better.

  • “tool” or “list” – Identifies listicles and resource pages where your competitor is featured. Reach out and request inclusion.

This targeted approach makes it easy to uncover link opportunities based on real, proven patterns.

3. Qualify link prospects with metrics

Not all backlinks are equal. To focus your efforts on the most valuable opportunities, you can sort and filter the report using SEO metrics provided for each link:

  • Domain Authority (DA) – Higher is generally better

  • Page Authority (PA) – Useful for evaluating the strength of the specific page linking out

  • Spam Score – Avoid high scores to protect your own site's integrity

  • External Followed Links (EFL) – Pages with fewer outbound links often pass more value

This helps you focus on authoritative, low-risk domains that are more likely to contribute positively to your SEO.

4. Add as prospect

When you identify a backlink worth pursuing, simply click the “+” button next to it to add it as a prospect link.

This action moves the link into your tracked list and tells Linkody to start monitoring its status. You’ll be notified if and when your site eventually receives that backlink, either as a result of outreach or naturally.

This feature helps you stay organized and follow up on promising opportunities without relying on spreadsheets or manual tracking.
