How Linkody finds backlinks

Updated over 3 months ago

Linkody automatically discovers backlinks to your domains and competitors using multiple data sources and regular link checks. Here's how it works:

When a domain or competitor is added

As soon as you add a domain or a competitor, Linkody starts searching for existing backlinks pointing to it.

To ensure broad coverage, Linkody pulls links from three independent providers.
If you've connected your Ahrefs account, and it’s a paid plan with available credits, Linkody will also pull links from Ahrefs.

After collecting these links, Linkody immediately checks the status of each one and only adds links that are live.
This is important because most providers—including Ahrefs—often return many links that are no longer valid or live.

📌 Note: No link provider can be 100% comprehensive or perfectly up to date due to the massive and constantly changing nature of the web.

Ongoing link discovery

After the initial link collection, Linkody continues to look for new backlinks weekly.

If the New Links email notification is enabled (it’s on by default), you’ll receive a report listing all newly found live links for your domains.

For competitor domains, Linkody also runs weekly scans. If the Competitor New Links email notification is enabled (also on by default), you’ll be alerted when new backlinks to your tracked competitors are found.

Summary

Linkody combines multiple data sources, live verification, and weekly scans to deliver accurate, up-to-date backlink data. While no tool can capture every link, Linkody works to provide you with the most reliable and relevant set of backlinks possible.
